Vancouver Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev had just gotten back to action on Tuesday. The blue liner had been out a few weeks with a groin strain after he limped off in the third period of a 7-1 loss to the Nashville Predators in December.

He was back and ready, and stepped on the ice Saturday to face the Toronto Maple Leafs. But HIS face was at the centre of it all, or more precisely at the centre of the target of Morgan Rielly's shot.

The Leafs defender snapped the puck, which was deflected in Tanev's face.

The veteran went down, and immediately left the ice bloody to the dressing room, as one of the trainers managed to follow him and give him some repairs.

His teammate Michael Del Zotto kindly went to the ice where his teeth laid, picked them up and brought the loose teeth to the team's bench.

The rest of the team felt disgusted and hurt for Tanev as the footoage of his teeth being picked off the ice was shown on the big screen.

The 27-year-old shutdown defenseman also missed seven games earlier this season after taking a shot off his hand on Nov. 7. He has two goals and four assists in 26 tilts in 2017-18.

And A LOT of bad luck...
