New Jersey Devils' Palmieri almost loses eye after a high-stick from Greene

Nasty cut. That was actually extremely close.

We have just witnessed a terrifying scene in the game between the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils, when veteran forward Kyle Palmieri almost lost an eye after he received Andy Greene's stick right under his right eye.

"Oh boy. Oh boy. The only thing I can say is it looks fortunate that it was just below. Because that could have been even more dangerous. And Kyle Palmieri goes down... And he was bleeding profusely..."

Close enough. We're glad to know he's okay, because this could have been devastating. Especially because the 27-year-old winger has been playing extremely well as of late: he amassed six points in his last four games. He's having one of the best seasons of his career: he recorded 42 points in just 59 games, and is just six goals shy of his career-high 30.

Palmieri was selected in the first round of the 2009 NHL entry draft by the Anaheim Ducks. He was traded to the Devils in exchange of a 2015 second-round pick, and a 2016 third rounder. He played a total of 419 career NHL games, in which he recorded 241 points.

The Devils ended up winning the game 4 to 3.

Sidney Crosby makes a huge declaration about Carey Price ahead of tonight's game

Carey Price has had a very difficult 2017-18 season. Not only did the 30-year-old star goaltender suffer two serious injuries (a lower-body injury in November, and a concussion at the end of February) that forced him to miss nearly two months, but his performances have not been nearly as good as we have seen over the past seasons.

When we look at his stats sheet (16 wins, 24 losses, 6 OT losses, 3.07 GAA and .902 SV%), it is actually hard to believe he won the Ted Lindsay award, as well as the Hart, Vezina and William M. Jennings trophies just three years ago.

Now even though he won't be suiting up in tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby decided to talk about Price, and how he is certainly going to bounce back next season. Here's what he told La Presse's reporter, Richard Labbe:

"I'm sure he's going to bounce back. He has been so good since the start of his career, it's been extremely hard for him this season because of all these injuries. There's so much pressure on his shoulders, especially in Montreal. Being a goaltender isn't easy. But he's one of the best, and I am not worried at all."

Crosby also added that the reason Price hasn't been playing so well this year may be quite simple:

"It's hard to stay at the top year after year. The expectations are high, and things don't always go as well as you would like. People expect you to be better every year. You can work hard, and you can prepare youself, but you never know how it's gonna go during the season. Carey had to face a lot of obstacles and adversity, he's had ups and downs. But he also had incredible seasons, and he's an incredible goaltender so I'm sure he'll be just fine."
