NHL stars Tavares, Eichel, Kane and Larkin fire back at NFL’s Ramsey after he claims he could “crack the NHL” in 6 months

You can't even skate! Keep dreaming, bud!

In case you missed the news from earlier this week, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback and all pro trash talker Jalen Ramsey claimed that after six months of intense training he could “probably crack the NHL.” Keep in mind that Ramsey also admitted that he doesn’t know how to skate...

For real? Unfortunately, yes. Check out these comments:

Jaxsonville Jaguar soundbiter Jalen Ramsey told ESPN Magazine’s Mina Kimes that he could make the NHL after training for 6-months.
“He’s never tried skating,” Kimes writes, “but if he trained for six months, he says, he could probably crack the NHL.”

Let that one sink in for a minute…

He’s never tried skating… but he thinks he can play in the NHL. Keep dreaming, buddy!

Ramsey reportedly played lacrosse in college and believes that his stick skills can translate to the NHL. Plus, as he points out, “There’s not a lot of black people who do it.”

Where to begin with this clown? First off, no. Just no. Secondly, have we learned nothing from other pro athletes who have tried to crossover into different sports? When was the last time anyone checked in on Tim Tebow?

If nothing else, Ramsey’s ridiculous comments have only proved that hockey doesn’t get the respect it deserves amongst casual fans. And if you think NHLers weren’t listening to Ramsey… think again. ESPN’s Emily Kaplan managed to track down a few prominent NHL stars to get their thoughts on Ramsey’s statement.

Check it out:

Jack Eichel - Buffalo Sabres“I think it’s insulting to our league. For us as players, we’ve dedicated our lives to be playing in the NHL. To think after six months you could come play arguably one of the hardest sports in the world? I mean, I think it’s ridiculous he would say that. It’s ignorant.”
Vladimir Tarasenko - St. Louis Blues“I can bet any money in the world and there’s no chance he can play in the NHL in six months. It’s impossible. Him saying that … it de-classes our sport.”
Dylan Larkin - Detroit Red Wings“He’s said he’s never skated before… so there’s no chance.”
John Tavares - Toronto Maple Leafs“Well, I’d tell him good luck, then.”
Chris Kreider - New York Rangers"It's so funny to me. I think he's an unbelievable athlete, but skating is a skill set unto itself -- just like running is, just like swimming is. Think of someone who has never swam before. If you've never been in the water before, no matter how good of an athlete you are, chances are, you're not going to be an Olympic-caliber swimmer in six months.

Nashville Predators forward Ryan Johansen doesn't think Ramsey's talents would transfer to the NHL, but he does think that wouldn't look out of place in the NFL himself:

Ryan Johansen - Nashville Predators"I don't think I'd look like an idiot," he said. "But I definitely wouldn't be pro-ready."

Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov was perhaps the most welcoming of all NHLers:

Evgeny Kuznetsov - Washington Capitals"I would like to see that, for sure," Kuznetsov said. "He can come; we can help him. It's cool if an athlete wants to try something new."

And perhaps the best quote of all, of course, from Evander Kane:

Evander Kane - San Jose Sharks“I think I’d be about 1,000 percent times better at his position in six months than he’ll be at mine.”

I think we’re with you there, Evander. Personally we’d LOVE to see this showdown. Kane vs Ramsey on the ice and on the field. Make it happen, NHL!
