Let’s face it, football fans are spoiled when it comes to the amount of high quality video content available to them. The NFL, perhaps better than any other professional sports league, produces incredible behind the scenes content that’s readily available to fans online and on television. While series’ like HBO/Epix/NBCSN “NHL Road to the Winter Classic” offer a glimpse behind the curtain, the NHL really doesn’t come close to offering up the same entertainment that the NFL does… until now.

According to a report from Corey Masisak of, the NHL is currently producing a documentary series similar to the NFL Network’s popular “Hard Knocks” series in which fans are taken behind the scenes of an team’s training camp and preseason.

Check out this video with some of the best moments from Hard Knocks over the past decade:

So, who’s tabbed for the first edition of the NHL’s own Hard Knocks? The New Jersey Devils.

Some NJDevils news: The club is participating in a Hard Knocks-style training camp documentary series. The MLB/NHLN production team has already started filming and will be with the Devils through the trip to Europe.

Awesome! To be 10% honest, the Devils are a perfect choice. They’re a team that’s still in transition, but they’ll no doubt face increased expectations in 2018-19 after vaulting themselves into a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot in 2017-18. Oh… and then there’s MVP Taylor Hall to follow. Keep in mind as well that the Devils are opening up the 2018-19 season in Europe, as Masisak mentions. The team will open up their season with a game against the Edmonton Oilers in Sweden, after playing an exhibition game in Switzerland.

Masisak goes on to report that the program, which we don’t know the name of just yet, will likely be broadcast on the NHL Network later this fall:

I believe it’s going to air on NHL Network. I’m sure the team will have more details on it in the coming days.

Stay tuned, Devils fans. We’ll release more information about this program as it becomes available. Until then, here’s your MVP doing what he does best:
