The NHL Network releases its list of the league’s Top 25 Captains of All-Time yesterday afternoon to much controversy. Fans and analysts have chewed up the list and spit it out, arguing over inclusions, exclusions and the final rankings. Some of the most perplexing choices like Daniel Aldredsson with the Ottawa Senators and Derian Hatcher with the Dallas Stars are being ripped apart by passionate hockey fans in both Canada and the United States.

As for the Toronto Maple Leafs… well only two former Leafs captains made the cut: George Armstrong at #8 and Syl Apps at #14. No Teeder Kennedy, no Dave Keon, no Mats Sundin, no Darryl Sittler, no Doug Gilmour, no Wendel Clark

While some names on the NHL’s list are no brainers like Mark Messier, Jean Beliveau, Steve Yzerman, Bobby Clarke and Wayne Gretzky… the list leaves a lot to be desired.

You mean to tell me that Daniel Alfredsson was a better captain than Dave Keon? Whatever you say, NHL…
