Penguins coach Sullivan absolutely rips NHL for terrible officiating

The Pens’ bench boss was NOT happy following a 4-1 loss absolutely FULL of controversial calls…

In case you missed Game 2 this afternoon between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals… man did you miss a game. The Capitals prevailed 4-1, evening their second round best of seven series at one game apiece with the Penguins.

But the real story wasn’t so much the score, or even the players playing the game. Nope, once again the NHL’s crack officiating crew took over the game story and are earning the bulk of headlines this afternoon. That’s because the officials weighed in on two pivotal goal reviews and also failed to catch Caps forward Tom Wilson for his head shot on Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin.

First up, Wilson’s head shot on Dumoulin:

Ouch… that looks painful. The question is whether or not Wilson intended to follow through with the shoulder on Dumoulin, or whether Dumoulin’s stop up on Alex Ovechkin caused the collision?

Either way, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan isn’t sharing his thoughts… perhaps wary of some supplemental discipline from the league for speaking out.

Sullivan didn’t hold back though when asked about a controversial non-goal call on Patric Hornqvist midway through the third period, however.

First, here’s the play in question:

The on ice officials called good goal while the Penguins celebrated, but the play went to video review immediately following the celebration.

The reason why? Officials wanted to be 100% certain that the puck had crossed the goal line. Here’s the closest look we have, what’s your call?

That certainly looks over the line, but can we be certain? So… what’s the call ref? Goal or no goal?

No goal.

Incredible! As you might imagine, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was NOT happy with the call:

Pretty clear to see that Sullivan is NOT happy with the official's explanation of things.

After the game Sullivan absolutely ripped the NHL and its officials for what he deemed a blown call.

Wow… this is basically Sullivan’s polite way of saying, “Are you f***ing kidding me!?!?!”

What’s your take? Is coach Sullivan out of line here? This certainly won’t help the Penguins shed their “whiner” reputation amongst NHL fans.
