The PGA rolled into Canada this past Thursday for the RBC Canadian Open at the world famous Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario. Canadian MacKenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ontario made the cut at Glen Abbey and was battling it out with Tour veterans Keegan Bradley and Brant Snedeker for a top 5 finish when play was suspended due to lightning in the area.

Hughes follows leader Dustin Johnson, son in law of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, by five strokes with just five holes left to play. While it doesn’t appear that Hughes will catch Johnson when play resumes tomorrow, he could be the first Canadian to finish in the top five at the Canadian Open since Mike Weir lost to Vijay Singh in a playoff way back in 2004.

Following today’s round Hughes reflected on his play during but, being a die hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he couldn’t help but comment on the Leafs’ captaincy.

And in case you missed it, here’s Hughes chipping in for birdie on number 7 while sporting his Leafs jersey:

Mackenzie Hughes, a class act. He wears his Toronto Maple Leafs sweater teeing off at , then gives it to a young fan at the green, who looked about 5/6 and was soooo happy. Well done Mac!

I mean… how can you not love this guy? Not be be outdone, Johnson himself showed a little family love to The Great One when he stepped up to the tee on number 7, as well.

Frankly, we’re more partial to the look that his wife, Paulina Gretzky is sporting these days… but we’ll let you decide that for yourself…

Stop distracting us, Paulina!

Back to the matter at hand... Matthews or Tavares? Who's the best choice for the Leafs as captain moving forward? Tavares' experience is undeniable, but with contract negotiations underway between Matthews and the Leafs, you have to imagine that the team sees him as their biggest piece moving forward. So... who's your pick? Matthews or Tavares?
