Edmonton Oilers fans haven’t had much to cheer for this season. Outside of Connor McDavid’s opening night hat trick against the Calgary Flames, it’s been a season of disappointment in Oil Country. Well… last night McDavid and the Oilers managed to put the disappointment and inconsistency aside, if only just for a game, as they rolled past the league leading Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2.
McDavid was ELECTRIC all night long and ended up with four goals and five points on the stat sheet. Two of his goals were pure highlight reel material, with his second goal of the evening earning potential “Goal of the Year” buzz from fans around the league.
Check it out:
That speed… that angle… HOW do you do it, Connor?! That’s an impossible goal from an impossible angle… at least for us mere mortals. When you’re Connor McDavid though, the rules of physics do not apply.
Here’s the goal again, showed from a different angle:
What a snipe!
McDavid wasn’t done there though, check out his hat trick goal in which he goes zero to sixty in about 2 seconds and blows by Bolts rookie Mikhail Sergachev:
Again, so nice that we gotta see it twice:
And with that goal, the hats rained on the ice for McDavid’s third career hat trick. All in all it was another impressive showing for the Oilers’ young captain. In fact, some Oilers fans went so far as to call it the single most dominating performance in his young career. There’s no doubt that McDavid absolutely stole the show last night, but what’s your take? Did we just witness Peak McDavid?
