Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Oprik will be sidelined for an undetermined period of time, as he is dealing with an upper body injury, hockey insider Tom Gulitti reported today in Twitter.
This season, Orpik has registered five points in 33 games played. The 37-year old defenseman, drafted 18th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2000, played 934 games in the NHL with the Penguins and the Capitals, registering 180 points. He added 19 points in 125 playoff games. Oprik won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009, and joined Washington as a free agent in 2014.
The Capitals are playing their next game on Saturday night against the Anaheim Ducks.
