Report: Ducks bringing back classic “Mighty Ducks” uniforms?

A leaked report has retro hockey fans licking their lips in anticipation!

Hockey fans can usually be put into one of two categories:

  1. Those who LOVE the original Mighty Ducks of Anaheim jerseys and logo.
  2. Those who HATE the original Mighty Ducks of Anaheim jerseys and logo.

Fans of a certain vintage, namely those who grew up with the Disney Mighty Ducks movies starring Emilio Esteves and Joshua Jackson typically have a soft spot in their hearts for the eggplant purple uniforms and the cartoon duck billed goalie mask.

Remember these beauties?

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, there’s no denying that the original Mighty Ducks uniforms are one of the most iconic looks of the 1990s.

Now, a leaked report from NHL uniform expert Chris Creamer of Icethetics reports that the Ducks will in fact bring the iconic logo back for 2018-19, likely on a third jersey with black as the uniform’s color.

Check it out:

Hearing the new Anaheim Ducks third jersey may be black with this crest.

Of course, the Ducks have rocked the old school logo in recent years on their third jersey, but the orange jersey was met with a decidedly lukewarm reaction.

Fair enough… but you have to admit that they’re at least better than these hideous rags:

Personally, we're hoping the Ducks elect to go full retro at some point and decide to embrace their heritage, no matter how tacky or cartoonish it may be. The orange in the current uniform is a smart nod to the team's Orange County ties, but the team's current D duck foot logo is a little uninspired...

So, what do you think? Would you welcome a return to the "Mighty" days in Anaheim? Or, are you one of those fans who'd rather just forget the entire thing?

For what it's worth, the Ducks could maybe use a little bit of a refresh to help them get over the Stanley Cup playoff hump. While they've managed to qualify for the playoffs the past six seasons, the Ducks haven't made it back to the Stanley Cup Final since their 2007 Stanley Cup championship. They were upset by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs after reaching the Western Conference Finals a season ago.
