Report: Golden Knights place defenseman on the IR

The Vegas Golden Knights have placed defenseman Jon Merrill on the injured reserve, the team announced on Friday. The team didn't provide any further details on the nature of his injury. 

Merrill, 25, was drafted 38th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2010. He played 230 games in the NHL with the Devils and the Golden Knights, registering 38 points and 96 penalty minutes. Vegas claimed him in the expansion draft from New Jersey.

In 14 games played this season, the 6'3", 205 pounds defenseman has two points and eight penalty minutes in 14 games played. 

The Golden Knights are playing against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Vegas are currently first in the Pacific division with a record of 27-10-2. Chicago are seventh in the Central division with a 19-14-6 record. Malcom Subban is expected to get the start for the Golden Knights, and he will be facing Jeff Glass.
