Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin has some interesting comments regarding his future for the assembled media following today’s gameday skate at Rogers Arena.
The Canucks face off against the visiting Los Angeles Kings tonight, but Sedin didn’t field many questions about his team’s game plan. Instead, Henrik used the opportunity to clear the air about his plans, along with his brother Daniel Sedin, for next season and beyond.
This past weekend Henrik went on record saying that he and his brother would like to return to Vancouver for at least one more season. The 37-year-old identical twins are playing out the final year of their four year, $28 million contracts signed in 2013. There’s no question they’d welcome a return to Vancouver, it’s just a matter of dollars and term, really. The fact that Henrik wants to return is no surprise, the surprise came when he was asked about contractual demands.
Wow… that’s not something you often hear from pro athletes. To be fair though, the Canucks captain has never been one to shy away from the truth. He calls it like he sees it, and clearly he’s not going to let money ruin his legacy in Vancouver.
