Report: Sullivan issues a warning to Pens after loss to Avs

Maybe this will finally whip this team into shape?

Following last night’s dejecting loss to the lowly Colorado Avalanche, it was so quiet in the Pittsburgh Penguins locker room that you could hear a pin drop.

Immediately following the game, head coach Mike Sullivan made an ominous statement that should have EVERYBODY in the organization on edge. When asked if the team’s problems are correctable, Sullivan simply replied, “some of them.” How’s that for ice cold?

To be fair, the Pens bench boss isn’t wrong. It’s clear that the Penguins simply don’t have the right mix on the ice. The speed, tenacity and ferocity that the team has played with since Sullivan came aboard in 2015 is gone. We’re past the 30 game point in the season, so the “Stanley Cup Hangover” should no longer be an excuse.

One thing’s for sure, if this team can’t dig it’s way out of the hole that it has put itself in, GM Jim Rutherford is going to correct those problems himself via trade.
