Edmonton Oilers top prospect Kailer Yamamoto has been named the WHL’s On the Run Player of the Week for his 10 point effort last week. The Spokane Chiefs sniper registered six goals and four assists in just four games for the Chiefs and helped them move into the second wild card spot in the WHL’s Western Conference.

The Oilers’ 1st round pick (22nd overall) in this past June’s 2017 NHL Entry Draft has torn up the WHL since being returned to his junior club by the Oilers back in November. While he managed just three assists in nine games with the Oilers, the 5’8”, 155 lb 19-year-old has managed nine goals and 31 points in 21 games with the Chiefs.

The quick, shifty and elusive Yamamoto surprised nearly everyone in the Oilers organization when he earned himself a spot on the team’s opening night roster back in October. After all, Yamamoto has the build and demeanour of a stick boy, rather than an NHL hockey player. But one look at his skills on the ice and it’s clear that he belongs. With another solid campaign of junior hockey underneath him, Yamamoto will be poised to make even more noise at Oilers training camp next fall.

Congratualtions, Kailer! Keep ripping up the Dub!
