The summer of 2019 is definitely going to be extremely exciting, considering some of the NHL's best players are set to become unrestricted free agents. Among them, Tyler Seguin, Max Pacioretty, and star defensemen Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson.
Are the Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators going to trade their best blueliners before July 1st, 2019?
USA TODAY's Kevin Allen believes there is definitely a possibility that the latter gets traded. And if it were the case, the teams who wish to acquire him would have to pay a hefty price.
Here's what he had to say:
If the Maple Leafs decided Karlsson could put them over the top, the Senators would likely ask for prospect defenseman Timothy Liljegren and center William Nylander, plus draft picks and another prospect.
The Rangers' package would start with defenseman Brady Skjei and prospect center Lias Andersson. The Rangers would be a likely suspect to pursue Karlsson because they are in win-now mode with goalie Henrik Lundqvist turning 36 in March.
If the Dallas Stars were in the hunt for Karlsson, the Senators would want prospect defenseman Miro Heiskanen and maybe center Radek Faksa."
Do you think Karlsson is worth that much?
In 25 games this season, the 27-year-old defenseman recorded one goal and 18 assists for 19 points. He amassed 82 points in just as many games in 2015-16.
