Rumor: NHL team had trade blocked by the holiday freeze.

Trade may already be a done deal.

By the sounds of things we almost got one more trade before the National Hockey League's holiday freeze came into effect.

Penguins reporter Mark Madden of DK Pittsburgh Sports is now claiming that he has been informed that the Pittsburgh Penguins are very close to a trade, and in fact it sounds like it may already be in place.

According to Madden the trigger was not pulled on the deal "due to Christmas moratorium on trades," which would appear to indicate that we may get a trade as soon as the holiday freeze ends.

Madden has not been informed of what team or what return is in place for the Penguins but considering how hard they have been trying to trade veteran defenseman Ian Cole, it seems reasonable to speculate that he could be part of that deal.

The Penguins have also been looking for a top-9 center to add to their roster, however those rumors have linked them to a large number of teams including the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators and more.

The freeze ends Thursday morning, that's 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 28, don't be surprised if some big news involving the Penguins breaks very quickly on that day.
