The Nashville Predators have made some of the most significant moves in the NHL over the last few years - trading for P.K. Subban, Ryan Johansen, and Kyle Turris, just to name a few.
According to a report from TSN's Darren Dreger, general manager David Poile may very well have another star player in their sights, as one has hit the trade market recently.
Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty is officially on the trade market per multiple reports from the likes of Elliotte Friedman, Eric Engels, and Nick Kypreos, leading many to wonder where the NHL's 6th best scorer since 2011 will end up. Dreger revealed that Nashville is a team that has interest in the winger - especially with Filip Forsberg on the mend for the next 4 to 6 weeks.
The price will be significant. Pacioretty's season is one of his worst in his career, but the same could be said for most players on that team. The pressure he shoulders as captain in a city like Montreal certainly doesn't help his cause.
Most believe that teams will pay what he's worth at his best, considering the fact that when the captaincy is removed and he gets a fresh start elsewhere, he will likely return to the 30-35+ perennial goal scorer he's been over the last 5+ years.
Nashville nearly won it all last year, and have only gotten better this year - a blockbuster deal for Pacioretty may be what puts them over the top.
What will the price be though? One would think it starts with Eeli Tolvanen as the centrepiece. The young sniper, drafted in 2017, sits 5th in goals in the KHL, a rare feat for someone so young. Marc Bergevin may also try to pry out Ryan Ellis or one of the big four defenseman in Nashville. It'll be a steep price to be sure, and it will be exciting to see how this all plays out.
One storyline that would be especially interesting to follow if this ends up happening - is how the relationship between Pacioretty and P.K. Subban unfolds. Talks were rampant back in Montreal that the two did not get along, and that played a part in Subban eventually being shipped off for Shea Weber.
Pacioretty could be quite upset with this trade if the talks were all indeed true.
