The Toronto Maple Leafs will forever be linked in trade talks involving star defenseman - that is until they actually acquire one.
It's their biggest need right now, and with Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson being tossed around the rumor mill, there will obviously be talks of how they could possibly afford him.
Swinging a trade of this magnitude within a division, especially between these two rival teams, would be very difficult. It's nowhere near the Dion Phaneuf trade.
That being said, Kevin Allen of USA Today believes he knows the price for Karlsson, should Lou Lamoriello go all out for the Swedish superstar. Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star corroborates the price in a recent mailbag.
"If the Maple Leafs decided Karlsson could put them over the top, the Senators would likely ask for prospect defenseman Timothy Liljegren and center (winger) William Nylander, plus draft picks and another prospect."
McGran believes other prospects could be along the lines of an Andreas Johnsson or Travis Dermott.
If that's the price to acquire Karlsson - do you make the trade? What would be your offer?
