Rumour of last-second blockbuster Tavares trade surges as his decision keeps being delayed...

This is going viral and is making the waiting game painful to watch!

Just like we are, you are sitting at home waiting to see what coveted free agent John Tavares will do ahead of the opening of free agency season as six impressive offers have been left on his negotiating table.

For the past few days, Tavares has been meeting with six different clubs to get a better idea of where he will sign for the 2018-19 season. The free agent superstar reportedly negotiated with the Islanders and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday afternoon from his agent’s headquarters in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, Tavares met with representatives from the San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins, and on Wednesday, a meeting with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars was on the agenda.

As of now, while many pundits reported that we should have his decision before the end of the day on Saturday, we are still waiting for the word.

While the remaining six teams in the Tavares sweepstakes are still awaiting his decision, NHL insider and Sportsnet analysis Nick Kypreos decided to spice things up by putting forward a rumour that will cause madness on the free-agent market floor.

Kypreos wonders on social media if the waiting game could push New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello to trade Tavares' rights in order for his to get an eight-year deal with one of the other contending clubs? A sign and trade?!?

When the meetings first started, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported that there is a massive offer already on the table for the Islanders captain. The Islanders have made him an offer on Saturday, and once again, according to Pagnotta, the offer is believed to be an eight-year contract, worth $88 million.

If ever Tavares does not accept the Isles' current offer before the end of the day on Saturday, he can still sign  a seven-year contract with them, or any team, on Sunday.

If ever Kypreos is right and we see a last-second blockbuster trade for the rights to Tavares, the team that can pull off this move would then be able to sign the star forward to an eight-year contract then.

Tavares camp has now been taking a step back to decompress and review what they learned over more than 12 hours of face-to-face meetings this week, however, we bet this rumour, if true, could make things even more complicated for the forward...
