This is a huge blow to the San Jose Sharks as they fight to stay in a playoff position: leading scorer Logan Couture might miss more time than first expected.
According to the Mercury News, Couture did not skate Wednesday and the possibility exists that he may be shut down until after the NHL’s Christmas break to help recover from a concussion.
“It probably makes the most sense,” coach Peter DeBoer said when asked if there was a temptation to shut Couture down until after the break.
The Sharks are facing the Vancouver Canucks tonight, and are hosting the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday before the Christmas break. San Jose will be back in action on Dec. 28 when they take on the Calgary Flames. With or without Couture.
DeBoer did note that Couture is progressing, but there is not timetable for his return. The 28-year-old might only be back in action in January when he has fully recovered from the concussion he suffered a head injury suffered last Friday.
DeBoer confirmed Sunday that Couture suffered a concussion when he took a shoulder to the jaw area from Canucks forward Alexander Burmistrov in the third period.
Let's hope for a Christmas miracle, Sharks fans!
