The Nashville Predators will be fighting for their season when they take to the ice tonight at MTS Centre in Winnipeg to take on the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets currently hold a 3-2 series advantage and have an opportunity to wrap up things tonight on home ice before meeting the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final. Just… not so fast, says Preds defenseman P.K. Subban. You see, Subban and his teammates have a different idea. The Jets aren’t going anywhere… at least not until things are settled in Game 7 back in Nashville.
That’s right, the always quotable Subban confirmed a Game 6 victory for his squad saying, "We’re going to go (to Winnipeg), we’re going to win a game and come back here (to Nashville). It’s that simple.”
It’s that simple? If ONLY it were that simple.
The fact is that the Preds have been outplayed by the Jets for much of this series and, were it not for a Kevin Fiala double OT goal in Game 2, the this team could be in a lot bigger hole.
Subban, for what it’s worth, has been excellent this post season with three goals and eight points in 11 games. The 28 year old blue liner has done an admirable defensive job and is a threat to score nearly every time he’s on the ice. If the Preds manage to force a Game 7 back in Nashville, don’t be surprised if the motivated Subban is one of the biggest factors.
The native of Toronto, Ontario has had another stellar season for the Preds, putting up 16 goals and 59 points in 82 games during the regular season. But once again, if the Preds have any hope of continuing their season beyond tonight, they'll need to get more production from the rest of the team's lineup. Leading scorer Filip Forsberg looked to be heating up before going cold last game at home. Ditto for Ryan Johansen. Kyle Turris, a player acquired for his clutch goal scoring, has been a complete no show so far in the playoffs while first year captain Roman Josi has been almost a complete non-factor against the Jets. Vezina candidate Pekka Rinne has been inconsistent, to say the least. If the Preds plan on continuing their season they'll need all hands on deck... not just Subban's.
