The Canadian Screen Awards (CSAs) have been giving out their prizes this week for the year 2017 across the country, and some off-the-air awards have been given out to artists and personalities before the televised gala, which is set to take place on Sunday evening.
Though you cannot see this great news on TV: we offer it to you here. Nashville Predators star defenseman P.K. Subban is one of the winners. You read right!
A Just For Laughs comedy gala that served as Subban's goodbye to Montreal was broadcast as a one-hour TV special at the start of 2017, back in January. P.K. Subban: Shots Fired saw the Predators defenceman showcase his comedic chops while presenting a lineup of North American talents including Jeremy Hotz, Nate Bargatze, Dom Irrera, Tom Rhodes, Rebecca Kohler and the Sklar Brothers. When the gala was first announced back in March 2016, the fan favourite was still with the Montreal Canadiens.
He was traded to Nashville for Shea Weber on June 29 in a controversial blockbuster deal, but still went on with the comedy show, which was staged in August.
Now he is being rewarded for his talent and effort in the popular gala. Subban won the Best variety or entertainment special award for Shots fired, in this one-of-a-kind comedy special.
Fans in Montreal might not like to be reminded of the trade or the departure of Subban to Nashville, especially with the Canadiens out of playoff contention and Weber on the sideline since December.
But still Habs fans, try to find the positive here. Subban won an award - and for now - just now, it isn't the Stanley Cup he might come rub in your faces in Montreal.
For now ;)
