There are days like today when it seems like hockey insiders have the most shocking rumor out there. On Friday, there were two, that are for now simple chatter around the National Hockey League.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman had a Friday morning radio hit on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 and co-host Rhett Warrener asked him if Nashville Predators top defenseman P.K. Subban could once again be traded.
“I think he wears out his welcome with guys,” said Warrener, as reported by Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports Network. “I think he gets (under) people’s skin in the room. I think his value is huge around the league because he is that talented. Any chance they would consider making that sort of move.”
Friedman jumped in to chat about the stunning rumour and noted that Subban was almost traded earlier on to the Colorado Avalanche.
There was also a reporter from Radio-Canada, Martin Leclerc, who explained how Boston Bruins’ Brad Marchand’s ludicrous and annoying behavior on the ice could convince GM Don Sweeney to trade him this summer.
“Imagine what will be said about Marchand when GM Don Sweeney sits with his coach Bruce Cassidy and team president Cam Neely. Their team has just been eliminated even if it counted on one of the best first lines on the NHL. It is hard not to believe that the Bruins' efforts in the playoffs have not been constantly troubled by the behavioral problems of one of their best players. After all that has happened over the last few months, and considering the Bruins' culture, it would not be surprising if Marchand changed address during the summer. "
The report seems to have made its way to Boston, where a Bruins source close to the team had to come out and deny the rumor to Jimmy Murphy.
“Not happening. He knows what he needs to do and he gets it. We know he'll do it."
It looks like the Bruins surely did not waste time to deny that rumor.
Now that it seems we can put this story to bed, what about the Subban one? Will it be a summer where another blockbuster trade involving Subban takes place?!
