The Columbus Blue Jackets were handed a shootout loss on Thursday by the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and head coach John Tortorella was none too happy about it.
“Get out of the way, and let the players decide the games,” Tortorella complained, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “That’s what [stinks]. It’s just frustrating. There are some really good players out there. It’s a highly competitive game. I think a little bit of rivalry is coming into play here. Get out of the way, and let the players decide.”
Boone Jenner was assessed a 5 minute major and game misconduct for slashing Jake Guentzel in the face, and it was unclear whether or not that punishment was warranted.
Sidney Crosby took exception to the hit and ended up in a fight with Seth Jones that didn't exactly go his way.
“I don’t get it,” Tortorella added. “It’s barely a two-minute penalty. I hope we take a long look at that, at least rescind it so we don’t have that on his record.
“It’s not even close to a game misconduct for me.”
What do you think? Did Jenner deserve that severe punishment from the on-ice officials?
