Columbus Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella was moved to tears after the pregame ceremony at Nationwide Arena on Thursday night, before the game against the Dallas Stars.
It is not rare to see Torts with strong emotions, but to see him in tears was touching. The head coach was moved as the Jackets honored United States Army veteran Josh Sommers on Military Appreciation Night.
Sommers recalled how he was injured an enemy ambush while serving overseas and spent eight months in a coma, had three strokes and two brain surgeries. Sommers is now in a wheelchair and was at centre ice for puck drop and visited the players in the dressing room before the contest.
Tortorella explained in an interview with Fox Sports how it got so emotional before the start of the game:
