Trade Alert: Two former first round picks on the move

The Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames have hooked up on a deal involving two former first round picks. Heading to Montreal is former Vancouver Canucks 2013 first round selection Hunter Shinkaruk in exchange for former Columbus Blue Jackets 2013 first round selection Kerby Rychel.

MONTREAL - General manager Marc Bergevin announced on Monday that the Canadiens have acquired forward Hunter Shinkaruk from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Kerby Rychel.
A 23-year-old Calgary native, Shinkaruk spent last season with the Flames’ AHL affiliate in Stockton where he registered 17 goals and 32 points in 63 games.
Since making his NHL debut during the 2015-16 campaign, Shinkaruk has suited up for 15 games between Vancouver and Calgary, and tallied two goals and four points.
In 251 career AHL appearances, Shinkaruk boasts 75 goals and 149 points during stints with the Heat and Utica Comets.
A first-round pick of the Canucks - 24th overall - back in 2013, Shinkaruk was a Junior standout with the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers. 
Rychel, meanwhile, was acquired by the Canadiens from the Toronto Maple Leafs in late February. 
He played four games with the Habs, collecting one goal and two points. Rychel also suited up for 16 games with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, scoring eight goals and amassing 12 points.

he Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired forward Kerby Rychel from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Hunter Shinkaruk.
Rychel, a native of Torrance, California, was drafted in the first round (19th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft and has since seen action in 41 NHL games scoring four goals and adding 11 assists for 15 points. The 23-year-old totalled 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points last season in the AHL split between the Toronto Marlies and the Laval Rocket. Rychel skated in four games for the Montreal Canadiens last season notching a goal and an assist for two points. The 2016 Calder Cup Champion also represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2014.
