Imminent move coming up?

The Ottawa Senators have had to turn the page on the current season, and focus their attention on the future, but rival teams are very much focused on the present and are expected to use the Sens' retooling mode to make interesting trades before the Feb. 26 deadline.

As a matter of fact, it has been reported by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun that the Calgary Flames have been scouting the Senators for two weeks. The Flames have been said to be seeking help up front, as they continue to battle for a playoff berth. Calgary sits just one point out of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference and are expected to be buyers prior to the deadline.

Garrioch reported that speculation indicates that the Flames have interest in winger Zack Smith or center Jean-Gabriel Pageau and could try to pry them out of Ottawa in the coming weeks.

"The Calgary Flames have been following the Senators for nearly two weeks with scouts at most of their games and there’s talk they like either Smith or Pageau."

It will all depend on what the Flames have to offer...

In the last week, it had been said that the Senators were feeling they could still be fighting for a playoff spot, but the reality seems more gloomy.

"Sitting 14 points out of the final wildcard spot in the East after a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens Sunday, the Senators will face some tough decisions because Dorion has been doing a lot of talking with several teams calling to see exactly what he wants for key players," writes Garrioch.

"There’s no shortage of areas for Melnyk and Dorion to discuss as he begins to put a plan in action to get the Senators back on track after what’s been a lost season."
