Sportsnet columnist Sean McIndoe (Down Goes Brown) made his annual trade grades for every NHL team, and he gave an overall mark of B- to Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman. He made a total of nine trades.
According to McIndoe, the best deal would be sending veteran defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson to the Arizona Coyotes for defenseman Connor Murphy and forward Laurent Dauphin. Murphy struggled at the start of the season, but things are looking better for him, as he registered six points in 32 games so far this season, with a defensive differential of plus eight.
The worst deal Bowman made is probably sending a third round pick in 2017 to the Detroit Red Wings for forward Tomas Jurco. He only registered one point in 13 games played with the Hawks last season, and only played in the AHL so far this season, where he registered 21 points in 29 games.
The Brandon Saad/Artemi Panarin deal seems to have turned out at the advantage of the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the Hawks still got a really good young forward in exchange for a real good forward, so that can be a win for both organizations.
What do you think, Hawks fans? Are you happy with the trades Stan Bowman did in 2017?
