Trade rumor: Oilers eyeing Bruins young forward

Will they pull the trigger before midnight?

Multiple sources have recently reported that the Edmonton Oilers were one of the multiple teams that inquired about Boston Bruins forward Frank Vatrano, according to Jimmy Murphy of Murphy's Hockey Law.

In December thus far, Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli has scouted the Bruins three times and could be looking at his former club for help up front.

It was also reported a couple weeks ago that Chiarelli also likes Bruins forwards Danton Heinen and Peter Cehlarik, but it seems like it will be quite hard for Bruins general manager Don Sweeney to convince Chiareilli to land what he wants.

"The Bruins, as said in that same piece, did express interest in Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but Chiarelli said he’s not ready just yet to entertain serious offers for the top pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, one of the reasons likely being, Nugent-Hopkins has been one of the Oilers’ better players with 22 points (7g; 15a) in 31 games this season."

In a few hours, the Holiday Freeze will be in place and now trade chatter across the NHL has been picking up.

But we could see Vatrano traded out of Boston soon, as he is only making $792,500 and headed for restricted free agency this summer. The Bruins could get some value or include him in a bigger deal down the road.
