Before the Buffalo Sabres traded him to the Montreal Canadiens, Nicolas Deslauriers was struggling.
But after a short stint in the American Hockey League with the Laval Rocket, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound power forward was finally called up by the Habs, and now has a great opportunity to show the organization what he's capable of.
The 26-year-old forward played 15 games with the Canadiens this season, and already record three goals and three assists. Quebec city radio host, Vince Cauchon, said that it looks like the Habs are trying to turn Deslauriers into some kind of Dale Weise:
"Are we trying to turn Deslauriers into the next Dale Weise? Really? On the other hand, if fourth-line players are the only one to have value in Marc Bergevin's eyes, so be it."
Weise scored a career-high 14 goals in 56 games with the Habs during the 2015-16 season. Who knows, Deslauriers might be just as good if head coach Claude Julien keeps giving him as much TOI.
