Your Call: Should the Oilers make a trade for Leaf’s Leivo?

Just 24-years-old, speedy, skilled. Good pickup?

In case you missed it, Sportsnet reporter Nick Kypreos dropped a bomb on Toronto Maple Leafs fans this past Saturday when he broke the news that young Leafs forward Josh Leivo had requested a trade.

The 24-year-old Leivo has played just 25 games with the Leafs over the past two seasons, scoring three goals and 13 points along the way. He’s a speedy winger with some real scoring touch, but he’s been unable to crack the lineup under Leafs head coach Mike Babcock.

With such a need for speed and skill on the Edmonton Oilers’ wing, should Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli be pursuing the youngster? Given the circumstances, it’s unlikely that the Leafs would be seeking anything more than a draft pick in exchange for Leivo. He can’t be sent to the AHL without clearing waivers and he’s just rotting away in the press box night after night.

Why not free the kid and give him a fresh start with a team that could really use him? What’s your take, Oilers fans? Should the Oilers trade for Josh Leivo?
